Monsoon Vastu: Five Quick Audits to Do Before the Rains Peak

Vastu Shastra is not a decorative art. It is an environmental discipline, and the monsoon is when its rules become visible. Water finds every weakness. Air stops moving. Fire elements weaken. The three months from July to September are when most Vastu problems in an Indian home either surface or get quietly worse.

Audit one - the north-east corner. This is the Ishaan kona, ruled by Jupiter and Shiva. It must stay clean, light, and dry. Check for damp patches, stored junk, or a leaking pipe in this corner. If the north-east is heavy or wet through the monsoon, the family's peace and prosperity contract with it. Fix leaks immediately and keep a small copper vessel of clean water there.

Audit two - the south-east kitchen. This is the Agni kona. Monsoon humidity can extinguish the fire element here. Make sure the stove is working cleanly, the exhaust is unblocked, and there is no water storage directly next to the flame. Water and fire touching each other in the south-east creates conflict in the home.

Audit three - the main door. The main door is the mouth of the house. Check that it opens fully, does not scrape the floor, has no swollen wood from humidity, and is not obscured by an umbrella stand or wet shoes piled outside. A struggling main door constricts every opportunity that tries to enter.

Audit four - drainage. All outlets - kitchen, bathroom, balcony - should ideally drain towards the north or east. Blocked drains during monsoon are the single most common source of financial stagnation in Vastu diagnostics. Get a plumber in before the peak rains, not during.

Audit five - the puja room. The puja space should be in the north-east or east. In monsoon, check for any dampness behind the altar, replace any mouldy cloth or wick, and refresh the water in offering vessels daily. A neglected puja room in Sawan is one of the fastest ways to lose the spiritual momentum of the month.
